According to CEDAT experts, Kevin shows a maturing age as if he were currently 15 years old.

Kevin Sánchez, a 9-year-old Mexican boy, is selected for the first junior edition of NASA’s International Air and Space Program, where he will receive basic astronaut training for five days.

“I am very excited, very happy and happy, I knew I was going to achieve this, but I never thought that at a young age. I want to study about space because I want to be an astronaut because when I was little I liked everything about what space and the earth are like, I have been preparing a lot for all this,” said the minor, who radios in Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico. , during an interview.

Kevin is selected for intellectual giftedness

At four years of age, the Talent Care Center (CEDAT) recognized him as intellectually gifted with an IQ of 138, higher than average, explained the child’s mother, Jesica Colín. In addition, she pointed out that upon receiving the news about acceptance to the program, which will take place from July 28 to August 2 in Houston, Texas, there are expenses such as flights and accommodations that were not considered for both the minor and a tutor.

They are looking to raise funds for the trip

“Right now we are raising funds to help us reach someone who supports us and the community as well. Kevin is very happy because he also asked what his flight simulation would be like and they answered no, that he will be on a real flight with an instructor who will guide him to land the ship,” he added.

For the minor, who according to CEDAT experts shows a maturing age as if he were currently 15 years old, it will be his first experience traveling by plane and he claims to be mentally prepared to also do indoor skydiving in a wind tube and walk under the water using a special suit that will be provided by the organizers in collaboration with NASA.

“I am very grateful to my parents who give me their support to achieve my dream. And for the children, don’t be afraid, let them dare and prepare to achieve what they want,” declared the 9-year-old boy, classified as gifted since he was 4 years old.

Kevin is currently in primary school.

He is currently studying the fourth grade of primary school when he should be in the third grade, however, he could advance to other levels faster due to his intellectual capacity; The limitation has been the financial resources to acquire the books they requested.

“History, geography and mathematics are my favorite subjects and I like to exercise on the equipment that is in a park near my house. I also play soccer and basketball and read a lot about outer space, that’s why I want to be an astronaut and one day reach the moon,” the little boy said excitedly.

Areas with more development

Jésica recalled that the areas of verbal comprehension and visuospatial organization are those in which Kevin showed the greatest development at four years of age, motivating them to look for alternatives that allow his son to continue developing.

The diagnosis of the Talent Care Center on the psychometric evaluation carried out on Kevin Sánchez five years ago, reveals a much higher range of intelligence, that is, intellectual giftedness with an IQ of 138. The results obtained by the CEDAT suggest a major neuronal development at the level of the temporal frontal cortex, the orbital frontal and hippocampal cortex, and Brodmann areas 1 and 3 (motor), the document reads.
