The leadership of Section 22 stated that there will be an electoral farce on June 2nd, and they may boycott the elections throughout the state.
In the second week of their work stoppage, teachers from Section 22 of the CNTE took over the Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) plant, located in the municipality of El Tule, as well as the department stores in the center of the Oaxacan capital.
The union leadership reported that for the second week, there will be no classes in more than 11,000 basic level schools in the state, due to the lack of response to their demands.
The petition of Section 22 includes the total repeal of the educational reform endorsed by the PRI government of Enrique Peña Nieto. They also request a 100 percent salary increase to the base salary, uniforms and school supplies for the basic level, as well as justice for the deceased of Nochixtlán and the 43 students of Ayotzinapa.
In addition to taking over the Pemex plant and department stores, the teachers also retained urban transport buses to move to the Oaxaca-Cuacnopalan superhighway and at the Huitzo toll booth.
Meanwhile, the teachers’ sit-in continues in the zócalo of the Oaxacan capital, where the teachers agreed to continue for a second week, due to the lack of attention from state and federal authorities.
The leadership of Section 22 said that there will be an electoral farce on June 2nd, and they may boycott the elections throughout the state.
The airport of the Oaxacan capital remained open, although the teachers had announced during their assembly yesterday that they would block it.
“We remain standing in the fight, we will not stop, we are going for the second week, and we are taking action with everything, the authorities already know the demand, but they do not give us an answer, that is a sadness,” said the teachers.
This work stoppage affects more than 850,000 basic level students according to the State Institute of Public Education of Oaxaca (Ieepo).
