The chronicler of Playa del Carmen Raymundo Tineo considers that, if the invasions of urban properties in this municipality continue, the tourist destination as such will come to an end, since pollution towards the sea begins from the irregular settlements.

Tineo points out that since the first invasions a few years ago, the authorities should have done something; but instead of reacting, they allowed overpopulation in the city. “I don’t understand why this is happening, I think that, from the first invasion actions, the authorities should have already intervened. It is not possible that they do not have powers, urban disorder is being caused because (the invaders) are occupying areas that were not previously prepared for it. “That causes more chaos in the city,” emphasized the chronicler of Playa del Carmen.
He added that Playa del Carmen is already saturated, and despite this, people continue to come to the destination with their families in search of an opportunity. However, not finding a home, they invade areas such as San Judas Tadeo, Alfa and Omega. “Under that premise we are going to reach total chaos, we are not going to know who lives here, or why they live there and after a while they are going to come and occupy your house,” he stated.
He said authorities at all three levels of government should address the situation before it continues to worsen. Finally, he said that homes in the invasion zones in Playa del Carmen do not have basic services such as drainage, which is why all their waste flows into the sea.
“They are small houses, without parks, without drainage, without services, their organic and inorganic waste goes to the water table that is eight or ten meters away, and from there there is a network of (underground) rivers that goes directly to the beach and to the reef,” said Tineo.
