Over the last month, hotel occupancy in Puerto Vallarta has been gradually decreasing, reflecting the low season in influx of visitors, something normal between Easter and summer, in fact the most recent figures already place it close to 60 percent.

According to information from the Datatur system of the federal Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), after Easter Week the decline occurred, in week 15 occupancy was already 71.5%, in week 16 it rose to 73.3%, but immediately reduced the next to 72.2%.
Already in the month of May, in week 18 it dropped to 66.6 percent and the most recent record, that of week 19 (May 6 to 12) was at 64 percent. That is, in six weeks there was a reduction of more than 20 percentage points. Seen that way, it is a very considerable drop, although if compared with the low season levels of other years, a very interesting competitive level is maintained, sufficient to sustain the municipality’s economy.
As of week 15, Puerto Vallarta is already located below Cancún and Cabo Corrientes in occupancy levels.
In week 19 a year ago, the average was 65.3%, that is, this year there is a negative difference of 1.3 points.
In this regard, it is worth reporting that this week, the World Economic Forum published the Travel and Tourism Development Index, where Mexico occupies 38th place out of 119 countries studied, a drop of six places since the previous study.
Among the main disadvantages of the country as a destination, according to the study, are the perception of security and tourist services and infrastructure. On the more attractive side, Mexico stands out for its natural and cultural resources.
At the same time, consulting firm Deloitte released the results of its Summer Travel Survey for Americans. The survey reveals that, although 22% of those surveyed plan to take an international trip, 49% will fly to Europe.
While Americans plan to diversify the destinations they go to, the survey says interest in traveling to Asia has increased three percentage points, which is more than interest in traveling to any other destination in Mexico and the Caribbean.
