According to estimates, around 20 million families do not have a house in the country

It is estimated that in Mexico there is a deficit of 20 million homes, of which its great majority belongs to the level of social interest. This situation has become a crisis that prevents families from accessing their right to a house, said the National Executive Vice President of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI), Karim Oviedo Ramírez.
He said that more than four six -year years ago there is no clear and serious policy for the construction of social interest developments. He mentioned that although in administrations of federal governments some actions have been done, they are failed and have not solved the housing lag problem for Mexicans.
He pointed out that, according to the last housing census, in the country there is a deficit of 20 million households, of which 11 million are of a social interest level, 8 million are houses that are in bad conditions or on the edge of the collapse, in addition There is a need to build 1 million homes of medium-low interest for the population of this segment of society.
“It is a problem that is lived throughout the country. We have more than four sexenios that there is no clear policy of construction of social interest housing developments. The last exercises to build housing were not the luckiest (…). We bring a large 24 -year -old problem living, where we need to build 20 million homes for Mexicans, ”he said.
When making a count, Oviedo Ramírez pointed out that during the six -year period of the PAN Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, the construction of housing focused on places where it was not necessary to install developments, generating ghost condominiums that to date remain abandoned. From 2012 to 2018, with Enrique Peña Nieto as President of the Republic, he indicated that companies dedicated to the construction of social interest housing abandoned this activity.
Regarding the six -year period of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, he said that there was also a serious policy to guarantee housing to Mexicans. He said that while there were isolated efforts with self -construction programs, this does not solve the lag problem that exists in Mexico.
He said that from now on, solid policies are designed and executed to address this matter, it would take 10 years to build the 20 million homes that are needed for families. He added that another aspect so that Mexicans do not access the right of a house is the high cost of acquiring one of these properties.
“If we started building with a signing step, more or less we will take 10 years to build the 20 million homes that the country is needed. In general, there is a very large housing lag, it is one of the important deficiencies that the country has had, because there has been no way of solving it. Another thing, the loans to buy housing do not reach or if they reach is not for the areas where it really is needed, ”he said.
