Thousands of Mexicans abroad formed long lines at Mexican consulates in various countries to exercise their right to vote

A large turnout of voters is registered in most of the Mexican embassies and consulates abroad that were enabled so that Mexicans residing outside the country can vote this Sunday.

Shortly before the 32 federal entities of Mexico opened the polling stations to begin the electoral process on June 2, thousands of compatriots abroad were already forming long lines at the Mexican consulates in various countries to exercise their right to vote. The images began to circulate through social networks.

Although the majority correspond to places in the United States, where Mexicans have been summoned to vote, participation has also been seen in some European countries such as France.

Why go out to vote? Opinion leaders give their reasons

“Three hours ago the polling station opened in Paris and there is a long line for the #EleccionesMéxico2024. There is the line of those who did not register, where there are only 1,500 ballots, and the line of those who are registered,” shared the X user “Miguel Martínez.”

The video shows a long line outside the New York consulate waiting for the polling stations to be opened to begin voting. Similarly, a long line is shown at the consulate in Paris, France.

The official INE account published a series of photographs in which Mexicans are seen lining up.

“In Washington, the compatriots come early to assert their right to vote and decide on the destiny of Mexico,” wrote the electoral authority.

Other authorities such as the foreign ministry Alicia Barcena shared a message with a photograph that says: “Proud to see Mexicans abroad.” In the photo, a couple of compatriots carry a banner that says “I already voted.”
