The Public Treasury Secretariat is preparing the implementation of coordination agreements between Jalisco and the governments of Michoacán, Zacatecas, and Oaxaca, aimed at improving vehicle registration control and combating the evasion of fines.
According to authorities, they seek to strengthen the exchange of information that will make it possible to identify vehicles traveling in Jalisco with license plates from other states, in order to prevent the use of out-of-state plates from being used to evade vehicle-related obligations or fines.
Following the agreement signed in April between Jalisco and Guanajuato, authorities have sought similar agreements with the three states to work in coordination.
“We are pleased to announce that we have begun important efforts among the states to reach a framework agreement on vehicle registration control, and all of us as states consider it very important that these types of efforts be carried out for the benefit of citizens,” said Luis García Sotelo, Secretary of the Public Treasury.
The objective of the agreements is to ensure that obligations are fulfilled equitably and that violations have consequences, regardless of the state in which a vehicle is registered, while also strengthening vehicle identification and control mechanisms for security purposes.
The negotiations to establish the agreements with Michoacán, Zacatecas, and Oaxaca are well advanced, and they are expected to take effect during the coming months.
“The goal is harmonization in order to regulate vehicle control at the national level. It will be more than a matter of revenue collection; it is a matter of public safety, and that will contribute to good government,” said Salvador Juárez Álvarez, head of the State Tax Administration Service of Michoacán.
For this reason, the Government of the State of Jalisco is calling on people who reside in Jalisco and regularly drive vehicles registered and licensed in other states to regularize their situation and obtain Jalisco license plates.
