After traveling 1,600 kilometers, the Tamaulipas biker received the certification from the Association of Endurance and High Mileage Motorcyclists of Mexico

Accompanied only by the sound of his motorcycle, his helmet and his gloves, Félix Tovar Rosales overcame the challenge of the Mazatlán International Motorcycle Week 2024. The challenge consisted of traveling from Altamira to the city of Sinaloa in less than 24 hours, and Tovar Rosales was the only Tamaulipas biker to participate along with 30 national and foreign bikers.

“I am proud to represent Tamaulipas as a motorcyclist and change the misinformation that the general public has about motorcyclists, right now with the high number of accidents that I have seen here in the southern area.”

“Fear, only in the mountains”

At 5:45 a.m. on April 30, Félix left Altamira to travel part of the Huasteca potosina and then go up to Monterrey to head to the land of Sinaloa. He carefully prepared for the journey and to complete the five checkpoints: “They recommended that I not eat much, not drink much water and that I stop as little as possible to make good time.”

He also invested so that his motorcycle, a 2014 Yamaha R6, would travel smoothly on the asphalt. He equipped his bike with new tires to withstand the heat, a cushion for greater comfort on the seat and an adjustment on the accelerator to reduce the strain on his wrist.

During the trip, Tovar Rosales had no incidents and felt safe on the road. However, there was one particularly tense segment. “I got scared when I got to the mountains, the famous mountains called the Espinazo del Diablo, it is between Durango and Mazatlán, everything is dark and it is three and a half hours of pure mountains,” he said.

“I say that the adrenaline I had since I started helped me a lot, because the whole trip I saw new things and beautiful landscapes that I wanted to keep moving forward,” he added.

Tovar Rosales says that when riding a motorcycle, the most important thing is to pay attention to the road and connect with the route so as not to get bored. “You have to pay close attention to what is in front of you, what is to one side and what is behind you, right? And when you are on the road, you enjoy the air and the landscapes, so you enjoy every kilometer.”

A solitary trip

After traveling 1,600 kilometers, 31-year-old Felix, originally from Altamira, arrived at the Pacific coast of Sinaloa in 23 hours. There he attended the activities of the International Motorcycle Week and enjoyed the closing concert with a concert by El Tri y México, known for singing to rolling stones.

Afterwards, he attended the recognition ceremony for those who achieved the challenge, in which he received a certification from the Association of Endurance and High Mileage Motorcyclists of Mexico.

Although he has been in the world of motorcycles for almost ten years, this was the first endurance race he had ever participated in, although he had wanted to participate in one for years. “Things weren’t going well, until this year I said: yes I’m going; I wanted to experience a different type of trip than the ones I usually do in groups, this was a solo trip.”
