The airline acquired 20 aircraft, which will allow it to increase its operations throughout the country. The acquisition of these aircraft will expand its offer to 11 international destinations.
During this Friday’s morning conference, General José Gerardo Vega Rivera, general director of the Airport, Railway, Auxiliary Services, and Related Olmeca-Maya-Mexica Group (GAFSACOMM), a state-owned company that manages the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), announced the purchase of 20 Embraer E2 model aircraft by the airline Mexicana de Aviación, which will start to join the fleet from 2025 to 2027.
The acquisition of these aircraft makes the Mexican airline the first operator in our country of this type of high-efficiency aircraft and will allow the company’s operations to expand with 11 new international destinations, with which it is expected to transport more than 3 million passengers in the next 3 years.
According to the announcement, the aircraft will be delivered as follows: five E195 aircraft in 2025, starting in the second quarter; in 2026, seven E190 aircraft; and finally, in 2027, three more E190 and five E195. The configuration of the E190 is 108 seats and the E195 is 132 to provide greater comfort to passengers.
New routes for Mexicana
According to General Vega Rivera, the acquisition of these aircraft allows for strategic projections by Mexicana that will expand its offer to 11 international destinations, among these are: Chicago, New York (United States), Havana (Cuba), Bogotá (Colombia), among others, departing from AIFA.

According to the director of GAFSACOMM, since its start of operations, from December 26, 2023, to June 6, 2024, Mexicana de Aviación has transported 140,762 passengers in 2,990 operations, totaling 3,762 flight hours and more than two million kilometers traveled. During that period, an average of 1,025 passengers were transported each day.
During the past month of March, due to the high season for vacations, the number of passengers transported increased, the authorities reported.
The routes that have maintained a higher occupancy factor are those of Tulum, Tijuana, Mérida, Ciudad Ixtepec, and Ciudad Victoria. In these last two, the airlines had canceled their flights when Mexicana started, nobody was flying. The airline also offers rates according to the needs of passengers, with an average ticket price of 860 pesos; other airlines have an average price of 1,100 pesos.
It is worth mentioning that the 140,762 passengers transported by Mexicana represent 121 million 55 thousand 320 pesos of average cost per ticket purchased. If they had traveled on other airlines, the average cost for the same concept is estimated to have represented 154 million 838 thousand 200 pesos.
According to the report by the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA), these figures represent a saving for Mexicana users of 33 million 782 thousand pesos, approximately 22 percent less than if they had flown with another commercial airline.
