The tourist area of San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are abandoned after the dissolution of Fonatur; tourists give negative feedback
The executive president of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, Lilzzi Orci Fregoso, denounced that, six months after the dissolution of the National Fund for Tourism Promotion (Fonatur), a substitute body has not yet been formed to take care of the maintenance and cleaning of the tourist area in the municipality, which is generating negative comments from tourists.
“The tourist area is deteriorating a lot because, in the end, Fonatur disappears, but another entity should have appeared to carry out the work it did; we have experienced it, with the hoteliers in the area, the same guests have commented on the conditions of the cleaning, the treatment plant, there are many responsibilities that if well another institution, another direction, leadership, that can function with these activities must be born,” she stated.
She commented that the tourist destinations of San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are abandoned, as well as superblocks 9, 10, and 11, which is a reason for complaint from visitors, who have expressed their views on the cleaning conditions of Los Cabos.
Therefore, she asserted, it is necessary to define who will be the instance that will take care of the maintenance and cleaning service of these areas left by Fonatur.
She pointed out that, unfortunately, these actions were entrusted to Public Services, as well as to the Municipal Operating Organism of the Potable Water System (Oomsapas Los Cabos), but they do not have enough budget or personnel.
“I totally agree, if the actions carried out by the municipal directions are already a bit overwhelmed to add even more work, what is going to happen is that we are going to start seeing perhaps a change in the area of Fonatur, which corresponded to Fonatur, but a neglect in other areas and that is what we do not want,” she mentioned.
To conclude, she assured that it is urgent to address this situation and improve the cleaning of the tourist destination, as the urban image has a great deficit and different ways to cover these situations must be seen.
“It is evident that in terms of cleaning the road conditions of urban image we also have a great deficit, and we have to look at different ways to cover these situations,” she pointed out.”
