People with connections to the United States are being targeted by kidnappers in Reynosa, a border town that site about 20 miles south of McAllen.
REYNOSA TAMAULIPAS, Mexico City — A travel advisory was issued for those thinking about traveling to the border town of Reynosa in Mexico.
It sits about 20 miles south of McAllen, just across the U.S.-Mexico border.
The U.S. Consulate General in Matamoros issued the warning, saying it’s “aware of organized kidnappings for ransom occurring.”
They said the kidnappers are targeting people with connections to the United States, including U.S. citizens and residents.
“The kidnappers typically demand thousands of dollars for each victim,” a news release said.
Currently, the Department of State’s travel advisory for Tamaulipas, which is the state in which Matamoros lies, is Level 4: Do Not Travel due to crime and kidnapping.
