The passage of two low pressure zones in the southeast and in the Gulf of Mexico will cause heavy rains throughout the country, with the risk of flooding in the southeast.

Mexico expects heavy to torrential rains starting this Thursday, June 13, which could help counteract the drought experienced by different regions of the country but could also cause flooding in the southeast.

The National Service of the National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that at least 16 states in the country will receive heavy rains from June 13 to 20, including Mexico City and the State of Mexico.

The reason for the heavy rains are two low pressure zones that run through the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, both with possibilities of evolving into a tropical cyclone in the next few days, according to Conagua.

According to Conagua, the probability that the low pressure zone in the Gulf of Mexico will become a cyclone is 40 percent, while the one located in the Pacific Ocean, below Oaxaca, is 20 percent.

Which states will be most affected by the heavy rains in Mexico?

According to Conagua, this is the cumulative amount expected due to heavy rains according to each of the states with the highest risk:

Chiapas: 700 to 800 millimeters of precipitation.
