With 10 intentional homicides in the last few days, the state has already surpassed a thousand executions, as the sixth month of the year is about to end, according to the daily count of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), which reported 14,680 homicides throughout the country in the period January-June.

During the month of June of this year, 42 murders have been recorded in the state capital, while in Juárez there are 85.

Both cities are the ones that accumulate the highest number of intentional homicides in the state.

In the city of Chihuahua, the record of the previous months shows that 34 executions occurred in January, in February the figure rose to 42, while March fell to 27, in April it rose to 30 and May closed with 38 executions, so June is shaping up to be among the most violent of this first semester.

In the capital, at this point in the year there are 213 homicide victims.

With nearly 200 executions in different municipalities of the state, the entity reached 1,005 executions, most of them attributed to organized crime.

Although the figure is higher than that recorded during the first half of 2023, when just over 900 cases were registered in June, it represents a slight downward variation, because last year closed with 2,121 intentional homicides.

In that same year, 30,560 homicides were recorded nationwide, the lowest figure during the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador; while, to date, throughout Mexico there are 14,680 victims of this crime.

In 2018, 36,685 intentional homicides were recorded nationwide; in 2019 the number dropped to 36,661 cases, but rose in 2020 to 36,773. In 2021, a decline began to reach 35,700 cases. The following period dropped to 33,287.

In the case of the entity, the year 2018 registered 2,978 intentional homicides, in 2019 it reached 2,936 and rose to 3,468 cases in 2020.

The year 2021 closed with a record of 2,739 executions, then dropping to 2,157 in 2022.

The opinion research agency Tresearch International has documented that this period January-June 2024 is the one with the lowest incidence of intentional homicides in the country since 2016, when, in the same period, just over 10,000 victims were registered.

In the first half of 2017 there were 15,042 cases, in 2018 there were more than 17,700 cases, in 2019 the figure remained similar and in 2020 it grew to over 18,000 murders. In 2021 it began to decrease proportionally at the end of each year.
