Making amends for the historical debt to people in the LGBTIQ+ community in Guanajuato is still a great challenge, and even more so when it is the lack of political will that imposes obstacles in the fight for human rights.
Another legislature is about to end and unfortunately there is no certainty as to how much longer the fight for the recognition of the human rights of the people who make up this community will last, despite the recently published Law on Sexual and Gender Diversity.
Promoted by the LGBTIQ+ community itself, this law is undoubtedly a turning point in the social context of psychological, physical violence, labor and educational discrimination against them.
However, the current local Congress will close without even advancing in legislating equal marriages and gender identity.
Faithful to the conservative current, the strong resistance of the PAN Parliamentary Group to safeguard these rights was noted, including also that of women, for example, to decriminalize abortion.
It is a fact that the fight will not stop, and we only have to wait for our next representatives to have the willingness to assert the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community, because the debt is historical and progress is urgent.
Hopefully, this June 28, World LGBTIQ+ Pride Day, awareness will truly be raised and the voices of this community will truly be heard.
More than one person responsible
It is clear that in the violence exercised against Juan David Martínez, a minor who disappeared at the age of 11, there was more than one person responsible.
And it is not only about his stepfather, now a former preventive police officer, Miguel Ángel Barrón; according to the investigation of the Human Rights Ombudsman of the State of Guanajuato (PRODHEG), it is about the elements that covered it up, the Municipal DIF and its Auxiliary Ombudsman, which is supposed to guarantee and safeguard the integrity of our children.
And what about the State Attorney General’s Office, the only exception to the rule that did not receive a single recommendation. Why? Nobody knows, in the end for these instances it is just another file.
If they had to pay more, the authorities of the school where the minor studied would not escape either.
The omission had repercussions in the disappearance of Juan David, who is no longer even wanted, the person responsible has already been sentenced, something that was achieved by becoming a media topic.
The most heartfelt question is how many Juan Davids there will be, because to begin with the violence that has worsened in the state has hurt the children of Guanajuato more, many of them children of victims of disappearance and homicide.
