In the Main Hall of the Palace of Fine Arts, this Friday, June 28 and Sunday, June 30, the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro Ludwig Carrasco, will close its First Season 2024, with a brilliant repertoire that includes “De la tierra brotan colores”, a work composed by Mazatlan native Paulina Monteón.
These concerts are very special for the Sinaloa composer trained in the classrooms of the Music School of the Municipal Arts Center of the Mazatlán Institute of Culture, since “De la tierra brotan colores” was created with the sponsorship of the National Autonomous University of Mexico through the Arturo Márquez Extraordinary Chair of Musical Composition in its 2022 edition, and in Paulina’s words it is very gratifying that a group like the OSN interprets her creations.
“This is the first time that the National Symphony Orchestra, an orchestra of great cultural and historical relevance in the country, with exceptional musical quality, has performed one of my pieces, so I am very happy and excited. It is a great honor for me to be there, I feel proud and very grateful to all those who made it possible,” said the Mazatlan native.
As an introduction to her orchestral work, Paulina A. Monteón offers these words, written by Montserrat Pérez-Lima: “We often associate growth with an upward direction, outwards. However, what would become of plants and trees without the roots that nourish them? Colors sprout from the earth, exploring this possibility where internal healing processes appear as something that “sprouts” and something that “breaks” is born from below.
The closing of this first season begins with the Concerto No. 1, Op. 23 in B flat major for piano, by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, which will be performed by Eva Gevorgyan, who has won prizes in more than forty piano competitions.
