The State Coordination of Civil Protection reported that due to heavy rains in the municipalities of Huichihuayan and Cárdenas there were reports of flooded houses and streets, as well as fallen trees. In addition, they announced the partial closure of the Rioverde-Ciudad Valles highway.
According to the report issued by the agency, last night there were torrential rains for about 40 minutes in Cárdenas, which caused the streets to flood. The accumulation of garbage and other objects prevented the sewer system from properly draining the water. Municipal Civil Protection added that support was sent with crews and the area was cleaned.
In the municipality of Huichihuayan, several houses were flooded after the downpour that hit the town in the Huasteca area last night. The main damage was due to the rise of a stream that runs through the urban area of that district.
In this regard, the State Coordination of Civil Protection reported on two houses affected in the Lichi colony. Also, due to the overflow of a stream in the Chununtzen 1 colony, two houses were flooded.
In the municipality of Tancanhuitz, several communities were left without electricity last night, however Municipal Civil Protection attended to the emergency.
It was also reported on the removal of fallen trees on the Xolol-Tancanhuitz highway section, also in the Huasteca area. In this context, State Civil Protection asks to take extreme precautions when visiting places in the area.
In addition, it announced that for this weekend a tropical depression is forecast in the Gulf of Mexico, which will cause heavy rains in the Media and Huasteca regions of San Luis Potosí.
The State Coordination of Civil Protection indicated that most of the tourist sites are closed for aquatic activities, so it called on the population not to swim in these places or in places that do not have the security measures for recreational activities, such as rivers, lagoons, dams, embankments, pools or pits.
Likewise, Jesús Ernesto Trejo Pérez, head of the Roads Division of the State Civil Guard, reported that, due to the softening of the ground in the vicinity of some bridges, the Rioverde-Ciudad Valles highway, in the Valles-Rayón section, will remain partially closed for approximately 15 days.
