Tourism promotion in San Luis Potosí has added a new municipality: Villa Hidalgo, which will be able to use the “San Luis Potosí Surrealist” brand as part of the state’s strategy to promote its attractions and expand the range of destinations within the state.

As part of the agreement, the State Secretariat of Tourism and the Villa Hidalgo City Council signed a Non-Exclusive Brand Use License Agreement.

The signing was led by Secretary of Tourism Yolanda Josefina Cepeda Echavarría and Villa Hidalgo Mayor Crystal Alva Venegas, along with members of the City Council.

Beyond the formal ceremony, the agreement opens the possibility for Villa Hidalgo to use a brand intended to give greater visibility to communities with distinctive historical and cultural characteristics and incorporate them into the tourism offering promoted under the concept of “San Luis Potosí Surrealist.”

What Will Villa Hidalgo Be Able to Do with the Brand?

One of the central points of the agreement is that the municipality will be able to use the brand free of charge and on a non-exclusive basis, although only for purposes related to tourism promotion and dissemination.

This will allow it to use the brand to promote its attractions, establishments, services and tourism products, with the intention of incorporating the municipality into a broader state tourism offering.

The “San Luis Potosí Surrealist” brand was registered in 2020 as a tourism promotion tool and seeks to highlight places within the state that possess distinctive elements related to history, culture and nature.

The concept also includes the preservation of elements that form part of the identity of local communities, including their culture, biodiversity, language, traditions and customs, so that tourism promotion is not limited solely to attractions capable of generating visitors.

The incorporation of Villa Hidalgo is part of a coordination strategy between the state government and municipalities to expand the tourism offering of San Luis Potosí and promote destinations that are not necessarily part of the best-known tourism circuits.

Where Is Villa Hidalgo Located?

Located in the central-northern area of San Luis Potosí, Villa Hidalgo is approximately 45 minutes from the capital of San Luis Potosí.

The municipality borders Villa de Guadalupe, Guadalcázar, Cerritos, Armadillo de los Infante, Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, San Luis Potosí, Villa de Arista, Moctezuma and Venado.

Among its main attractions are the former haciendas that preserve part of the region’s history.

The Ex Hacienda de Peotillos, where features such as the Carmelite house and the old granaries remain; Hacienda Corcovada, known for its historic buildings; and the Ex Hacienda de La Tapona, which preserves an old vaulted waterwheel, are part of the heritage that distinguishes the municipality.

This is complemented by the recently incorporated Villa Hidalgo Urban Park, declared a Protected Natural Area in 2026, which seeks to preserve natural resources within the municipal seat itself.

Among the dishes and products that form part of its identity are asado de boda, quail and ixtlero rabbit, as well as sweets such as charamusca and biznaga.
