The possibility that the Costco membership-based store chain could expand its presence in San Luis Potosí has once again sparked consumer interest, particularly because for years residents of the capital of San Luis Potosí have pointed out the need for another location.
The issue has resurfaced as new commercial projects that could arrive in San Luis Potosí during the remaining months of the year are being discussed.
Mauricio Mahbub Tamez, president of the National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco), said that new developments are currently being identified mainly in the housing sector, although the commercial sector also continues to have growth potential.
The business leader considered it positive to know whether any of the shopping centers already operating in the city are considering expansions or whether investors are interested in developing new commercial spaces.
What did Canaco say about Costco?
When referring to the commercial projects that could be presented in San Luis Potosí, Mahbub Tamez specifically mentioned the possibility of another Costco store arriving.
“It’s been announced that a Costco may arrive,” said the Canaco president.
However, the businessman did not present the store’s arrival as a confirmed project, so for now it remains a possibility among the commercial investments that could materialize in the state.
A Request Repeated by Consumers
The potential arrival of another location is also attracting attention because the existence of only one store from the chain has fueled comments and requests from consumers for years, as they believe that San Luis Potosí needs a second store.
The growth of the metropolitan area, the expansion of new housing developments, and the concentration of consumers in certain parts of the city have kept the discussion alive regarding the need to expand the availability of these types of establishments.
For now, no location has been announced, but the mention made by Canaco has once again raised expectations that the new Costco store could be established in the eastern part of the capital.
