Libertarian Flame Reaches San Miguel de Allende After Traveling 65 Kilometers from Querétaro
The tenth edition of the Ruta de la Independencia Athletic Race brought together 65 students from 13 universities in the states of Querétaro and Guanajuato, who participated in a symbolic journey connected with Mexico’s Independence celebrations.
As part of the event, the Libertarian Flame traveled approximately 65 kilometers from Querétaro to San Miguel de Allende, continuing a tradition that seeks to commemorate the historical events associated with Mexico’s struggle for independence.
The arrival of the flame in San Miguel de Allende represented one of the main moments of the commemorative activities. The participating university students completed the route as part of the athletic and civic event, linking Querétaro with one of Guanajuato’s most historically significant cities.
The Ruta de la Independencia has a symbolic connection with the historical events that preceded the beginning of Mexico’s War of Independence. San Miguel de Allende played an important role in that historical period, particularly because of its connection with Ignacio Allende, one of the principal figures of the independence movement.
The participation of universities from both Querétaro and Guanajuato also gave the event an interinstitutional character, bringing together young people from different educational institutions to commemorate the national holiday through sport, history and civic participation.
The tenth edition of the race therefore combined physical activity with a historical commemoration, with the arrival of the Libertarian Flame in San Miguel de Allende marking the conclusion of its 65-kilometer journey from Querétaro.
