The Finance Commission of the San Luis Potosí City Council approved joining efforts to facilitate the construction of the Mexico City–Querétaro–San Luis Potosí–Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo passenger train, whose route includes a 66-kilometer section within the capital municipality.

During the commission meeting, municipal trustee Víctor Hugo Salgado Delgadillo presented an agreement under which the City Council could exempt the payment of certain fees related to properties that may eventually need to be acquired for the construction of the railway tracks.

The official explained that it will first be necessary to identify which properties would be affected by the project and determine whether they belong to the municipality, the state, communal landholdings, or private owners.

He clarified that the acquisition and compensation procedures will be handled by the Federal Government, while the municipality’s participation would be limited to administrative matters related to the transfer of ownership.

Salgado Delgadillo stated that the capital government’s intention is to reduce or eliminate the costs of municipal procedures related to the project, considering that the arrival of the passenger train could generate benefits for the city in terms of mobility and economic development.

According to the information presented to the commission, the railway route will cross several municipalities in San Luis Potosí, although most of the route will be located within the capital. In addition, the federal project contemplates establishing the largest station along the entire route in the city.
