Category 4 hurricane Beryl will make landfall twice in Mexico, the National Water Commission (Conagua) confirmed.

In a press conference, Conagua detailed that the first impact would occur during the night of next Thursday and early Friday morning on the Yucatan Peninsula, causing greater damage in Quintana Roo.

Due to its trajectory, Beryl’s second impact will be between Sunday night and the early hours of Monday between the coasts of Veracruz and Tamaulipas.

“Those are the two impacts, in the case of the Peninsula it is expected that it could impact as a category 1 or 2 hurricane and in the case of the borders of Veracruz and Tamaulipas, it could be as a category 1 hurricane,” added Alejandra Méndez, coordinator of the National Meteorological Service (SMN).

Which states will be most affected by the passage of ‘Beryl’?

The states most affected by the passage of Hurricane Beryl will be Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Campeche, Tabasco, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Veracruz and Tamaulipas. The remnants will reach Puebla, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, with torrential rains in those areas and intense rains.

“This system is expected to bring a lot of humidity and, therefore, intense rains are expected in the center of the country and in the east,” added the coordinator of the SMN.

In the case of Quintana Roo, the entire coast is in danger of storm surge because the possible impact is expected between the municipalities of Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Othón de Blanco; however, the dangerous quadrant of the system would be charged towards the north, especially in the center and south of Quintana Roo, Yucatan and the north of Campeche, said teacher Alejandra Mendez.

Next Wednesday, Conagua is expected to detail in a press conference how Beryl’s trajectory has progressed, as well as the category with which it is approaching the Mexican coasts and the possible municipalities affected by the hurricane.

This year, the Atlantic Ocean will have a very active hurricane season, with the possibility of up to 13 cyclones, of which 7 may be of a major category, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States.

Blue Alert issued for Campeche due to the approach of hurricane ‘Beryl’
Due to the proximity of hurricane Beryl, the Civil Protection Secretariat of Campeche (Seproci Cam), issued this Monday the Blue Alert for the municipalities located in the southwest, south, north, east and center.

Hurricane Beryl is located 55 kilometers from Granada and 2,880 kilometers east-southeast of Cancun, Quintana Roo, with sustained winds of 200 kilometers per hour and gusts of 270 kilometers per hour, moving west-northwest at 31 kilometers per hour.

According to Seproci Cam, this meteorological phenomenon would impact the coasts of Quintana Roo next Friday, July 5, around 6:00 a.m. as a Category 1 hurricane and would exit the Gulf of Mexico during the first hours of Saturday converted into a tropical storm.

Seproci Cam urged the population to remain attentive to the warnings of this Secretariat and to take precautions.
