Ñuu Savi and Me Phaa indigenous people from communities in San Luis Acatlán, on the Costa Chica of Guerrero, denounced that the three levels of government failed to pave 54 kilometers of road. “We have been demanding the work for 15 years,” said Jesús Plácido Galindo, a member of the leadership of the Indigenous and Popular Council of Guerrero-Emiliano Zapata (Cipog-EZ).

The indigenous people arrived in the capital after a 12-hour journey, coming from Pueblo Hidalgo, Tierra Colorada, Río Iguapa, Tuxtepec, and Pajarito el Grande. “The road goes from the communities of Ojo de Venado to Potrerillo; just last June 19 we met with engineer Martín Vega, from the Commission for Highway and Airport Infrastructure of the State of Guerrero (Cicaeg), who only proposed the rehabilitation of the roads, but we did not accept it. He told us about an investment of 2.5 million pesos for that 54-kilometer stretch, but it is very little, when we know that there are resources to combat poverty in the communities.”

The situation has already been raised at a dialogue table with the undersecretary of government, Francisco Rodríguez. “He promised us that after the elections the demands would be met and we would be received by Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda, but now they tell us that there are no resources, and that is why they cannot build or repair the roads.”

He warned that if their demands are not resolved by this month “the towns and the commissioners would take the roads, because there is also a lack of teachers, medicines, doctors, and hospitals. The Upper and Lower Mountains live in poverty, we do not see the 4T coming and, on the contrary, they turn a deaf ear.”

Since 2019, “they promised to build artisanal roads, and to build three roads in Zacapexco, Alcozacán, and Tula, in the municipality of Chilapa, but up to now they have not complied.”

That is why we are organizing. “Only in this way do we believe they will listen to us, because in addition to the road, we have other basic needs, in the area of health, education, and housing, that is why we ask that the governor turn her gaze to these towns, and that a dialogue table be set up. That is why we are here, we come peacefully.”
