This event is the best excuse to meet up with friends or family you haven’t seen in a long time or simply enjoy a Mexican snack, which is little known and delicious.
What are molotes?
It is a Mexican snack made with corn dough, which in shape is very similar to the fried quesadillas of CDMX, although its filling can vary and can be cooked potato, brains, tinga or potatoes with sausage, usually, they are for sale on the streets and are accompanied with sauce.
These delicacies are also known as empanadas and are fried in oil or lard, they can measure from 12 centimeters long to 6 centimeters wide.
In other parts of the country, such as Oaxaca or Hidalgo, you can find cylindrical molotes filled with beef, chicken, and cheese, which are served with chopped lettuce and sauce. While in places like Tlaxcala, San Luis Potosí, or Veracruz, they are shaped like a pointed oval and can be filled with sardines or ground beef with potatoes served with shredded cabbage and tomato sauce.
When and where is the 2024 Molote Fair?
From the 19th to the 21st of this month, the Molote Fair will take place in the magical town of San Pedro Cholula, an event that will have its 12th edition and will take place in the Plaza de la Concordia, next to the Cholula pyramid.
To delight attendees, the participation of 20 traditional cooks is expected, who will make this traditional Puebla dish, from which you can taste everything from classic fillings to unique ingredients from the region.
The time to enjoy these delicacies is from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and what’s special this year is that you’ll be able to find molote en nogada, an exquisite combination of this fried dish that combines some ingredients of chile en nogada such as the sauce that covers it, pomegranate and parsley.
