The head of government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada Molina, presented the progress of the comprehensive strategy against the crime of property dispossession, a coordinated effort between the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the Attorney General’s Office (FGJ), and the Secretariat of Government to restore properties, address complaints, and combat impunity in the capital.
At a press conference, the head of the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, Bertha Alcalde, reported that in less than a month, 53 properties identified in complaints involving crimes of property dispossession in Mexico City were recovered, and 32 cases were concluded.
Between August 5 and 31, she highlighted, new criminal complaints concerning the possible offense were received, while older cases originating from various agencies were reviewed.
Key Operational Figures
During the conference held at the Old City Hall, capital authorities detailed the figures achieved since the beginning of the administration and the results following the strengthening of the plan launched in August.
- Cumulative arrests: A total of 300 people have been arrested for conduct associated with the crime of property dispossession (October 2024 to August 2026), according to SSC head Pablo Vázquez Camacho.
- Arrests in 2026: During the current year, 114 alleged suspects have been arrested as a result of the prevention and restitution plan.
- Properties intervened: The overall investigation report lists 53 properties secured or recovered, 102 cases brought before the courts, and 32 mediations successfully concluded.
Evaluation of Recent Complaints
Likewise, Bertha Alcalde Luján reported that between August 5 and 31, 315 complaints were received in the capital. Following a methodological review, the status of the case files was determined:
- 61 confirmed cases of property dispossession: 5 committed through violence and 56 without violence. Of this group, 72% (44 cases) already show substantial progress through court proceedings, property seizure, or mediation.
- Under review and reclassification: 154 case files remain in the verification stage, while 100 correspond to other types of criminal offenses or disputes that do not constitute property dispossession.
- Recent seizures: As a result of addressing the cases confirmed in August, 22 properties were secured, 17 case files were brought before the courts, and 5 reparation agreements were reached.
Brugada emphasized that the strategy applies a differentiated process to each report: those that constitute a crime are referred for investigation and judicial intervention, while disputes of a family, neighborhood, civil, or inheritance-related nature are handled through alternative dispute-resolution mechanisms.
