Yucatán inaugurates Tourist and Gastronomic Corridor

Yucatán Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal inaugurated the Tourist and Gastronomic Corridor on Calle 60 and 47, a project that will boost tourism and the economy of Mérida’s Historic Center.

From Santa Lucia Park, the governor, accompanied by Mérida Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro, handed over the construction works from Calle 60 at its intersection with Calle 61 to Montejo Remate, completing this work aimed at strengthening tourism in this city area.

The first stage of this project was managed by the Mérida City Council and corresponds to the section that spans Calle 47 between Calles 56 and 48, which now has a more attractive corridor.

With an investment of 174.3 million pesos, the state government was responsible for the section starting from Calle 60 at Plaza Grande corner, up to Santa Ana Park, and another section on Calle 47 between Calles 60 and 56, including the Montejo Remate roundabout.

Additional improvements

With an investment of 120.5 million pesos, works are being carried out to implement a single level for the pedestrian area; vehicle flow restrictions will be applied in that space; and LED lighting will be installed to improve the image and distribution of spaces.

Additionally, passenger boarding and unloading areas, cargo and merchandise loading, and outdoor tables outside businesses will be installed, transforming urban mobility and boosting local economy.

Furthermore, 2.34 billion pesos have been invested in projects generating employment and allowing Yucatecan families to enjoy recreational spaces for healthy living.

Future vision

CANIRAC (National Chamber of the Restaurant Industry and Condimented Foods) President Claudia Yamily González Góngora thanked the government of Mauricio Vila Dosal and all involved parties for sharing the restaurant sector’s vision with this project, which not only beautifies the city but also boosts local economy.

Mérida Mayor Alejandro Ruz Castro indicated that thanks to the joint efforts between state and municipal governments, as outlined in Agenda 2050, projects like the Calle 60 Tourist and Gastronomic Corridor can be executed, improving not only urban image but also mobility in the Historic Center.

In his address, the governor highlighted that with works like this one, more tourism is attracted, being an industry that represents an opportunity to generate economic spin-offs in Mérida and throughout the state.

He also stated that today Yucatán is experiencing a great moment, as it is transforming on issues such as economic growth, formal employment, tourist arrivals, and security, but also with projects like the Ciclo Combinado power plants, the Maya Train, and Industrial Well-being Polos.
