The elected mayor of Taxco de Alarcón, Juan Andrés Vega, stated that it is necessary to “pacify the municipality” through an effective security strategy through coordination with the Federation and the State, this after facing episodes of violence, as happened three months ago with the death of the girl Camila Gómez Ortega, eight years old.

He acknowledged that the silver city is facing “complicated times”, referring to the issue of insecurity, which he said “is not a secret”, so in these months he will create the new strategy in terms of security, to face the problems of the municipality.

Consulted yesterday, after attending the ordinary session of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) in Acapulco, the next mayor under the acronyms of Morena, PT and PVEM, stated that his first task will be the certification of the elements of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), in order to improve the perception of security in the city.

There are setbacks in terms of security, however we are going to work on strategies with the three levels of government, which will allow us to pacify our beautiful Taxco in the short term.

He was also asked about the process of the request for an extension of the Gender Violence Alert against women (AVGM) in Taxco, and he regretted the death of the eight-year-old girl, although he said that when he takes over the government, he will work to create the conditions so that “women and the elderly are safe.”

Andrés Vega indicated that the main central axes of his government will be the economic reactivation, after the current mayor, Mario Figueroa, confessed that international tourism decreased by 50% due to the increase in violence in the municipality.

“We are going to focus on economic reactivation, tourism promotion and the sale of silver jewelry. We have a lot of work ahead of us and we will focus on tourism innovation, especially on the creation of new (tourism) products so that the municipality is well off economically,” he concluded.

On March 29, a mob of Taxco residents beat a woman after she was accused of kidnapping and murdering an 8-year-old girl. Authorities announced that the woman died during transportation as a result of the injuries she suffered.

The mayor of Taxco, Mario Figueroa, said that they are promoting the places that visitors visit in this colonial city of Guerrero, which has already gone several months without any murders.
