For the first time, the Grandeur of the Seas cruise ship from the Royal Caribbean shipping company arrived at the port of Progreso, Yucatan, with a total of 3,138 visitors, including passengers and crew, bringing with it tourism and economic benefits for this entity.

The enormous tourist ship arrived from Tampa, Florida, docked at the Yucatan port at 6:53 in the morning and after its passengers disembarked to see the many things the state and its people have to offer, it continued its 5-day itinerary and headed toward Cozumel, Quintana Roo.

With the cruise ship, 2,349 passengers and 789 crew members also arrived at this port, who had the entire morning and part of the afternoon to discover the natural beauty, culture and gastronomy of this port, located just half an hour from the capital, Merida.

During the welcome ceremony, representatives of the ship and the Yucatan government exchanged commemorative plaques for this first arrival, with the presence of authorities from the port of Progreso.

The Grandeur of the Seas is a Vission-class cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International. It entered service in 1996 and has comfortable facilities for its passengers, including a full-service spa, six jacuzzis, two swimming pools, an outdoor race track, a casino, eight themed bars, a main theater, six restaurants and a large dining room.

This type of arrival is possible thanks to the state government’s commitment to improving the infrastructure of Progreso, in order to offer attractions and experiences to its visitors, such as the Meteorite Museum, a recreational space that shows the biological history since the impact of the space rock 66 million years ago, as well as the Jurassic Trail, which exhibits dinosaurs of different species, most of them life-size and with robotic technology.

Also, in alliance with the federal government, the parks of the Chicxulub, Chuburná and Chelem districts were remodeled, with the Malecón and the House of Culture of this demarcation, while the popular Callejón del Amor was created.
