In order to visit the United States without a visa, Mexicans must meet certain requirements, otherwise they will have to apply for the document.

Andorra, Australia, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Brunei, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Taiwan.
How to apply for a Border Crossing Card
The United States Government has implemented a new document that will facilitate entry into its territory for citizens and residents of Mexico without the need for a traditional visa. The Border Crossing Card (BCC) is now an accessible option for many Mexicans.
The BCC is a B1/B2 type visitor visa, issued by the U.S. Department of State in a format similar to that of a credit card. It includes the applicant’s personal data and various technological elements to verify its authenticity. This card will allow visiting border areas of the North American country for up to 30 days.
Those who wish to obtain the BCC must meet certain requirements. It is necessary to demonstrate a link to Mexico, whether family, work or academic, that ensures the return to their country of origin after the visit. In addition, it is necessary to meet the eligibility standards for B1 business visas or B2 travel visas. The conditions for obtaining a B1 visa include attending meetings with business partners or conferences, and for the B2, traveling for tourism, family visits, or brief medical treatments.
The procedure to apply for the BCC must be initiated at the U.S. embassy or consulate closest to the applicant’s home. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) clarified that, by presenting the BCC along with a passport, it will function as a valid B visa to enter by any means and go to any part of the United States.
The BCC allows access to certain border areas of the United States, specified as “border zone,” which include:
In California, up to 25 miles from the border.
In Arizona, 75 miles from the border.
In New Mexico, up to 55 miles from the border or up to Interstate 10.
In Texas, up to 25 miles from the border.
This tool is valid for ten years and is expected to greatly facilitate legal and regulated crossing between Mexico and the United States, especially for those making short visits of a personal or professional nature.
