Through international forums with shipping companies, the Government of Jalisco, through the Ministry of Tourism (Secturjal), and the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, counted a total of 285,635 cruise tourists who arrived at the beaches of the Jalisco city during the first half of this year; the figure is 13.8% higher than that recorded in the first half of 2019.

Through a state statement, it was reported that Puerto Vallarta is one of the favorite destinations for cruise passengers who travel the Mexican Riviera route, so from January to June 94 cruises have arrived, according to information from the National Port System Administrations (Asipona).

So far this year, January is the month with the highest presence of cruise passengers in Puerto Vallarta, with 72,889 passengers disembarking.

“Cruise tourism is of great importance due to the economic benefits it brings to the destination. During this semester, promotional actions have been carried out with the various international shipping companies that dock in Puerto Vallarta; but we have also made significant progress with the renovation of the dock infrastructure in the destination and on the beaches to the south of Puerto Vallarta, which allows us to dramatically improve the experiences that these cruise passengers can have in Vallarta,” said Vanessa Pérez Lamas, Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco.

Companies arrive at the Port

The government of Jalisco highlights that in April of this year, Puerto Vallarta was promoted at the Seatrade Cruise Global 2024, and the foundations were laid to continue growing in the reception of passengers.

“The shipping companies Princess Cruises, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Vidanta Cruises, Windstar Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, Celebrity X Cruises, Holland America Line, Oceania Cruises, Viking River Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line arrive at the Jalisco destination. Currently, Puerto Vallarta has three berthing positions to simultaneously serve three cruise ships of the highest specifications,” the statement reads.

“Thanks to its strategic location, modern infrastructure, diversity of tourist attractions, security and the warmth of its people, Puerto Vallarta has established itself as one of the most important cruise ports in Mexico,” they conclude.
