Nowadays, surnames are an important part of our personal and family identification, and, although the tradition and meanings of surnames have evolved over time, they still carry with them a historical and cultural burden.
However, many of the surnames that the Mexican population has are becoming less common, and, due to their low frequency, they could be at risk of disappearing, such is the case of some surnames that begin with the letter “Y”.
The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), carries out the registration of these peculiarities related to the birth rate of the population in Mexico, all this through a field study called “Cuéntame México”:
In 2020, there were 2,089 people registered with the surname Yañez, 432 with the surname Yam and 365 people with the surname Yepez throughout the country, some other surnames that begin with “Y” that are increasingly difficult to find are:
Yzquierdo.
Yebra.
Yunes.
Yahuaca.
Yedid.
Yuit.
Yee.
Yllescas.
Yocupicio.
Do you know anyone with that surname?
