So far this holiday season and the fair, this 2024 has seen 15 percent international tourism and 85 percent national tourism, coming from various points in the Mexican Republic, said Elisa Haro, Secretary of Tourism in Durango.
The interviewee commented that the average occupancy last week was around 90 percent, but, in addition, the range of the natural market of tourists to the entity was expanded, given that they came from various spaces outside the neighboring states of Durango.
“The reality was that the goal was to be above what we had last year, 70 percent. Last week was the best occupancy we have had in the year, which is 90 percent occupancy in what is the entire plaza, people from all over the country. 85 percent of tourism is national and 15 percent is international, where compatriots come, but other countries are also starting to show up, who are starting to see Durango and visit us. This shows us that the new promotional campaign that we launched in July is yielding results.”
He stressed that now what is being sought is to expand the activities that people can do in the state, given that there are other attractions, not only in the mountains of Durango, or the capital, but in the same way there are recreational spaces such as Nuevo Ideal or Nombre de Dios.
“The reality is that we want tourists who know us to come back to Durango capital, to know that there is much more than Durango capital, that they can go to Nombre de Dios, to Nuevo Ideal, to the mountains, to see more cabins than those on the Pueblo Nuevo side, because it must be said, the people of Sinaloa know the cabins that are closer to or on the border with Sinaloa, now we want them to go into other ecotourism centers, the Mennonite communities.”
