
The most important ethnic festival in Latin America and the pride of the Oaxacan people ended with a fireworks display that framed the culture, folklore, music, dance and joy that express the essence of a unique identity worldwide such as the Guelaguetza.
The people of Oaxaca and visitors gathered at the evening broadcast of the Second Monday of the Hill and enjoyed the generosity of the 16 delegations that participated with their traditions and practices that reflect the life of their localities, the government of Oaxaca reported in a statement.
This last presentation began with the standing intonation of the emblematic “God never dies” by Macedonio Alcalá, followed by the participation of the representative of the Goddess Centéotl 2024, Juana Hernández López, accompanied by her sisters from the eight regions of the entity, expressed the joy that this colorful celebration represents.
Governor Salomón Jara Cruz and the Honorary President of the Oaxaca DIF System, Irma Bolaños Quijano, attended this fourth 2024 broadcast, together with the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués; Senator Citlalli Hernández and the head of the National DIF System, Nuria Fernández Espresate.
With the applause of the public, Santiago Jocotepec presented La compañera del chinanteco, a dance that expresses the daily work of women within their home life, the cleaning of corn with hands and feet in the river, to later turn it into nixtamal and then into tortillas that characterize this population; San Pedro Tapanatepec presented Lavado y planchada de ropa de San Pedro Apóstol and San Juan Copala with the dances La calandria, La noche buena and El colibrí.
The joy and mischief of women and men from Santa María Huatulco were present, they wearing their colorful skirts and they, shirts and cotton shorts; San Miguel El Grande also captivated with viko tanda´a -wedding parties- with a Mixtec wedding ritual and sones that show the joy of its people.
San Francisco Ixhuatán showed the delivery of stewardship in honor of the Virgin of Candelaria; Huajuapan de León with the unmatched and unsurpassed Jarabe Mixteco, which drew applause from the Auditorium and the intonation of the Canción Mixteca, which the rain accompanied in this revelry.
In its participation, San Juan Bautista Coixtlahuaca presented Comparsa Azteca, a dance that takes place during the national holidays; Juchitán de Zaragoza presented its devotion to the Holy Cross that shows the faith of its inhabitants and whose women wear their colorful costumes with grace; Santa María Teopoxco with The marriage rite and xochipitzahuatl “small flower”; San Bartolo Coyotepec with the well-known Dance of the Feather, which features men with jumps and turns wearing feathered headdresses.
San Pedro Ixcatlán presented na pu-ta chichi and la borrachita, Mazatec songs that are approximately 260 years old; Santa Catarina Juquila thrilled the auditorium with chilenas, songs and games full of color, rhythm, music and mischievous verses.
The beauty and skill of the women of San Juan Bautista Tuxtepec was evident in Flor de Piña, a dance that brought the audience to its feet and provoked prolonged applause and jubilation from the spectators; San Pedro Pochutla with songs from this land that show joy and festivity and members dance with mischief and sensuality to the music that represents them.
The closing of this fourth 2024 broadcast was in charge of the Chinas Oaxaqueñas of Genoveva Medina, who with shouts of ¡Viva Oaxaca!, ¡Viva la Guelaguetza! The marmots, lanterns and calenda monkeys danced to the sound of Jarabe del Valle while they raffled off their vibrantly colored skirts to announce to the public “see you in 2025”.
The state leader accompanied the delegations who together danced in the center of the Rotonda de la Azucena and witnessed the fireworks that exclaimed the richness of this land, the Cultural Heart of Mexico.
The head of the National Council to Prevent Discrimination (Conapred), Claudia Olivia Morales Reza and representatives of the federal, state and municipal governments also attended this party.
