The curious warnings of a Korean who lived in Mexico and opened a taco shop in his country

Mexican food is one of the aspects that draws the attention of foreigners, whether for its spiciness, its variety or exotic flavors found in each dish of the country, it seems that this taste was enough for a Korean to open his own taco shop.

The restaurant is called “Conmigo” and offers tacos de suadero, tripa and carnitas; in addition to nachos, pastor-style ramen soup and also dishes from South America, but what stands out on its exterior board is the curious presentation or warning to its customers, since the objective of this Korean who lived in Mexico is to demonstrate that he has enough knowledge to prepare Latin American food.

Among his public “curriculum”, Lee Se Jun said that he lived a decade in Mexico and that he was even a victim of crime, in addition to the fact that in a single day he was able to eat 24 tacos, demonstrating that he managed to blend in sufficiently with the culture of the country. He even has professional training regarding the country’s cuisine.

This is what you can see on his chalkboard on the sidewalk:

  1. I studied 10 years in Mexico
  2. I was a dentist before
  3. Most tacos I ate in one day: 24
  4. I finished a cooking course in Mexico
  5. Times my house was broken into in Mexico: 2
  6. Times my car was stolen in Mexico: 1
  7. Times I encountered robbers: 1

If you have any questions, the doors are open.”

The Korean who lived in Mexico decided to open a taco shop because this dish was one of his pillars in a difficult time, according to what he revealed to KBS, a South Korean radio station.

“Tacos are not just a dish, but part of the Mexican culture that supported me in difficult times,” he said. Taco Conmigo not only offers Mexican food, but usually has a special menu on traditional dates such as the Day of the Dead.

Lee Se Jun is a young Korean man with a promising career as a dentist, who completely changed the course of his life after a life-changing trip to Mexico. During his time in Mexico, Se Jun uncovered a deep emotional and cultural connection to an icon of Mexican cuisine: tacos. This wonderful experience not only altered his eating habits, but also redefined his life purpose.

Lee Se Jun found tacos to be a constant source of comfort and familiarity. Being away from his home in South Korea, amidst a different culture and language, tacos served as a bridge to a sense of home and emotional relief. Tacos, Se Jun recounted, would “touch him beyond just taste, providing him with a comfort he hadn’t found elsewhere.”

Despite his success in the dental field, Lee Se Jun began to question his true happiness and personal fulfillment. This process of introspection led him to consider what he most appreciated and enjoyed in life, and he soon realized that his passion for Mexican tacos was too great to continue ignoring. He then decided to follow his culinary passion and bring the authentic taco experience to his hometown.
