Re-Discover, Live and Enjoy Guadalajara

La serie de conversatorios 'Re-Conocer, Vivir y Disfrutar Guadalajara', busca establecer diversas narrativas en torno a la urbe.

A territory shared by all the people of Guadalajara, it is revealed through its streets, which tell collective stories and define a personal identity. Under this premise, the series of talks “Re-Knowing, Living and Enjoying Guadalajara” will be held, with the aim of establishing various narratives around the city, from its historical context to its contemporary dynamics, which range from urbanization policies to its vibrant nightlife.

The mayor of Guadalajara Candelaria Ochoa, organizer of these meetings, points out that Guadalajara is a deeply divided city. The channeling of the San Juan de Dios River showed a marked separation between the east and the west. Unfortunately, living conditions in the east are precarious due to the lack of attention in that area.

Meanwhile, the western area has become a privileged place to live, with the construction of 291 towers in the last decade.

The talks seek to reflect on Guadalajara, exploring both its iconic spaces and the effects of urbanization and densification policies.

“These meetings invite us to re-know the city, to live it and enjoy it. Often, we do not consider this as part of our daily routine,” says Luis Felipe Cabrales.

In addition, Cabrales warns that projects such as the opening of the Par Vial street were carried out without taking the community into account. “For example, the transfer of the Mexico Telephone Building on Avenida Juárez was a significant social process. So, how do we think about Guadalajara when it is transformed by these road axes? On which people are we focusing our attention?” adds Cabrales.
