Coronado Island is located approximately 30 minutes by boat from the nearest city, Loreto.

Visitors praise the beauty of Coronado Island, highlighting its crystal-clear waters and white sands that contrast beautifully with the turquoise color of the sea. Unlike other tourist destinations, the island is usually free of crowds and has no shops or hotels, ensuring a peaceful experience in direct contact with nature.

Activities that can be enjoyed on the island include snorkeling, bird watching, and exploring nature trails, allowing tourists to learn about the local biodiversity.

During the winter, the island is an excellent place to observe dolphins and whales, and it is common to see sea turtles swimming near the coast. Sea lions also often accompany visitors, adding a special touch to the experience.

Tours to Coronado Island can be booked online or in nearby areas. These tours, which last between 3 and 5 hours, are offered by companies such as Sea & Land, with an average cost of 1300 pesos per person.

Some tourists have found tour options that range from 2000 to 3000 pesos, and it is possible to split the cost between several participants. In addition, an additional fee of 110 pesos per person must be paid in order to visit the island.

For a safe and comfortable visit, it is recommended to wear appropriate footwear such as boots or tennis shoes to avoid slipping during walks, and to bring enough water for the tour.

Since the island is a Protected Natural Area, the use of jet skis, the entry of pets and the making of campfires are prohibited. To carry out camping activities, it is necessary to inform the management of the area through the Protected Natural Area (ANP) forms. In addition, the site must be reserved in advance before the visit.

Loreto Bay National Park

Loreto Bay National Park is located in the Gulf of California, off the coast of the municipality of Loreto, in the central-eastern part of the state of Baja California Sur. This Protected Natural Area is made up of five main islands: Coronado, Danzante, Monserrat and del Carmen, as well as several islets, according to the Mexican Ministry of the Environment.

“This park has ecosystems with great diversity, richness and biological communities that support important ecological, biological and oceanographic processes that provide countless ecosystem services that allow for the realization of different important economic activities, such as tourism and commercial and sport fishing,” says the Ministry.

The islands were inscribed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a World Heritage Site in 2005 thanks to their great beauty, geological processes and natural laboratory for the development of scientific knowledge.

Thirty species of marine mammals have been recorded in the park, that is, 75 percent of those found on the coasts of Mexico. For this reason, this Protected Natural Area is considered to be the one with the largest number of marine mammals nationwide.

These species are included in the list of endangered species and some of them are the blue whale, Bryde’s whale, tropical fin whale, fin whale, common fin whale, humpback whale, pilot whale, sperm whale, dolphin, sea lion, among others.
