The construction of the Durango-Mazatlán railway is the most important project for the state, said the president of the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), Francisco Salazar Mendía, even for the country, since this is one of the most promising opportunities to trigger the development of the north of the country.
“The deep-water port of Mazatlán is considered in the national port infrastructure plan, it is practically authorized,” hence the railway work between Durango and Sinaloa will have to be a priority as well, since the Durango-Mazatlán Superhighway will be insufficient for the transfer of merchandise that arrives through this port.
He recalled that this is not a new project, since already in the previous administration, the company called Caxxor was interested in being the investors of the project and for this they presented a project to the state government that in turn was sent to the federal authority for review and authorization, however the permits were not finalized and the project was put on hold.
Therefore, the project will have to be done again with the help of private investment and follow its trail, “as CMIC we will also see what we can get involved in and help with the project,” said the businessman from Durango.
He even pointed out that the State Government would have to meet again with the directors of the Caxxor group to find out if they are still interested in being investors and if not, look for another company that is willing to do it, because as mentioned by the governor of Durango, Esteban Villegas Villarreal, if the federal government does not want to invest in it, there is the private initiative that has the necessary resources to get it going.
