Michoacán continues to strengthen its air connection, and in that framework, Volaris will open a new air route between Morelia and Monterrey, which will begin operations on November 3 with four weekly frequencies. In a statement, it was reported that Roberto Monroy García, head of the Secretariat of Tourism of Michoacán (Sectur), explained that the instruction of Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla has been to strengthen alliances with airlines and increase connectivity to the state.

The management of this new frequency and negotiations took place since April within the framework of the Tianguis Turístico de México, in Acapulco, Guerrero, between the State Government through the Secretariat of Tourism and the airline Volaris. Monterrey is an important market for “the soul of Mexico”, both for tourism and for business.

Monroy García recalled that in 2023 there were more than 30 thousand tourists from Nuevo León, who left an economic spill of 40 million pesos, “while in the months of January to May of this 2024 more than 15.5 thousand tourists and visitors from this northern state have been received who have generated an economic spill of more than 18 million pesos.” He pointed out that the importance of this flight lies in the connectivity with Texas, given the proximity to Laredo and San Antonio, in the United States, since the most important international market for Michoacán is the one from the neighboring country to the north.

Volaris staff explained that the flight is already on sale, although it does not begin operations until November of this year. Likewise, the company used its social networks to inform about the new routes in which Morelia is included, through the Francisco J. Mújica International Airport. From January to June of this year, the Francisco J. Mújica Morelia International Airport has reported the arrival of 613 thousand passengers, 300 thousand national and 313 thousand international.
