The Rosarito Citizen Security Secretariat did not receive a report of the fight that occurred during the Baja Beach Fest celebration, where a young man was brutally beaten, and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) did not receive a complaint about the assault, but reported that it will investigate ex officio.

The moment, captured on a video taken by attendees at the massive event, went viral on social media and shows a young man repeatedly kicking another man in the head who is unconscious on the ground.

A group of women are also seen pushing each other and falling on top of the young man who is still unconscious, when other people intervened to stop the fight.

According to a medical report from the General Hospital of Playas de Rosarito, the young man identified himself as Cristian, 21 years old and originally from New York, United States.

Cristian entered at 11:07 p.m. for medical attention and at 12:51 a.m. “he left the hospital on his own two feet,” according to official information.

His “voluntary” medical discharge was signed by a relative who identified herself as his cousin, in order to transfer him to a hospital in his country of origin.

Some media outlets claimed that the young man hit in the head had died, however, the Baja California Prosecutor’s Office stated that there were no deaths related to the Baja Beach Fest celebration.

The head of the FGE, María Elena Andrade Ramírez, stated that there was a homicide in Playas de Rosarito over the weekend but it is not related to the celebration organized mainly for young Americans.

“Baja Fest was a clean slate,” she said this Monday during a press conference in the city of Mexicali.

The Secretariat of Citizen Security of the State of Baja California (SSCBC), stated in a press release that the fight occurred in a bar overlooking the event and that the injured man was treated by paramedics from the venue and later transferred to the hospital.

The Rosarito Beach Police activity report does not mention any fights or reports of injured people, it only indicates that 129 people were arrested for administrative violations, one person was placed at the disposal of the police for drug dealing and 11 vehicles were towed for violations.

According to police estimates, there were just over 46 thousand attendees at the Baja Beach Fest this weekend, which featured performances by groups such as Peso Pluma, Becky G, La Bella Kath, Fuerza Regida, and others.
