In Guadalajara, the creative industries, including animation, video games, comics, gastronomy and technology, contribute to the state of Jalisco about 55 billion pesos annually, said Alfredo Aceves, general coordinator of economic development for the municipality.
During his participation in the presentation of the 13th edition of the Pixelatl Festival, the state representative stressed that there are 22 thousand companies dedicated to creative issues in the state.
Aceves indicated that it currently generates 3.4 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Jalisco, indicating that it is an industry “that has and will have a lot of weight in the economic development of the state.”
“The creative industries are a very powerful industry, there are a very important number of sub-sectors that benefit from it, from the craft sector, architecture, design, gastronomy, music, production, animation, video games, comics, advertising. When we talk about creative industries, we are talking about many sectors of the economy,” Aceves indicated.
He highlighted that the festival will take place from September 3 to 7 and will generate an economic impact of 20 million pesos, since 3 thousand attendees are expected to attend the event.
He indicated that from the Agency for the Development of Creative Industries of Jalisco, it is important to support and encourage the realization of these events where artists, designers and animators can engage in business discussions in spaces such as the festival.
“Through the creative industries department we have the objective of supporting all industries, but we also try to consolidate entrepreneurial talent; we focus on consolidating this medium, so that the art and talent of people can be translated into a long-term business,” he highlighted.
Aceves pointed out that they have already carried out actions such as equipping some production studios in the state, in order to promote the development of projects that can be consolidated.
“We support any type of industry, but we try to focus on consolidating projects that, I repeat, have technological components, that are scalable, innovative and that can be much more viable in the long term, that is why state programs try to incubate and accelerate projects of this nature,” he concluded.
