Jalisco Electoral Court confirms MC victory in Guadalajara mayoralty

Se confirma así la validez de la elección y la constancia de mayoría a la planilla registrada por Movimiento Ciudadano.

The Electoral Court of the State of Jalisco unanimously ratified the victory of Verónica Delgadillo and the Movimiento Ciudadano Party for the Guadalajara mayor’s office, rejecting the challenge process presented by the Morena Party seeking to repeat the election. The same happened with the Morena challenge for the mayor’s office of San Pedro Tlaquepaque and the government of Jalisco.

“Movimiento Ciudadano Party 317,062 votes; Fuerza y Corazón coalition for Jalisco 131,468 votes, Siguemos Haciendo Historia coalition 295,241 votes; unregistered candidates 703; void votes 16,938. Total 761,412 votes. It should be noted that in the Guadalajara election the results showed a difference of 21,821 votes between first and second place, which reflects a difference of 2.93% with respect to the valid vote,” was part of the resolution. The validity of the election and the proof of majority for the list registered by Movimiento Ciudadano are thus confirmed.

This result was to be expected: José María Martínez
The Morena candidate, José María Martínez said that this result was ‘to be expected’: “Today the regrettable thing is this vulgarity, that (the Court) convenes in secret, we found out both Eduardo Almaguer, representative of Morena, and myself through social networks.”

The Morena efforts will continue in the next instance “not only is it (the Court) involved, there is the State Police, not the one from Guadalajara, it is the State Police that is in charge of Enrique Alfaro who is the one who is giving the instruction to his employee Tomás Vargas Suárez (magistrate). All sessions are public and this one was not convened, the issue is that it was a surprise attack and they do not allow us to enter,” said Martínez.

The Morena member maintains that the magistrates did not take into account the robustness of the evidence that was presented as the basis for their request to annul and repeat the election for the Guadalajara mayor’s office.

The Jalisco Electoral Court instructed the Jalisco Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute (IEPC) to make necessary adjustments, especially in the reassignment of council seats.
