More than 80 migrants of different nationalities were detained and assaulted by elements of the National Guard and the Mexican Army, near the Bajío International Airport.

During the attack, according to testimonies, personnel from the National Institute of Migration (INM) were also present.

A video was spread through social networks where several gunshots were heard by federal authorities; however, the State Attorney General’s Office reported that there were no injured people, the shots had been in the air.

The incident occurred around 11:40 pm on Monday at the Ferropuerto, which is located behind the Airport and near the Puerto Interior, in the Emiliano Zapata Expansion community.

83 migrants attacked

After the arrests, through a statement, Susana Guerra Vallejo, head of the Secretariat for Migrants and International Liaison (SMEI) confirmed that the agency “had contact with the group of migrants in transit, who were attacked by federal authorities in the municipality of Silao on the night of August 12 in the vicinity of the Guanajuato Interior Port.”
