Starting in January 2025, Durango will become the first state in the north of the country to have a Music Conservatory that will aim to train professionals in the musical field.
This project was announced by the Secretary of Education, Guillermo Adame Calderón, who highlighted the value of music for human development and reported that the Conservatory will be located in the Centro Escolar Revolución, in the Tierra Blanca neighborhood, and will have teachers of national and international stature.
The activities will begin with a Master’s Degree in Musical Performance, focused on piano. Later, other academic programs will be offered, such as the Bachelor’s Degree in Theory and History of Music, and advanced courses in Piano and Orchestral Conducting. In addition, a talent program for children and young people will be opened, with specialization in piano and violin.
Dr. Anatoly Satín will direct the institution, while teacher Vlada Vlasilieba will assume the position of Academic and Artistic Coordinator, both make up the internationally recognized Petrof duo.
Satin stressed the importance of providing opportunities to talented musicians from Durango who, due to high costs, cannot study at international conservatories. As a reference, he mentioned that studying music in New York can cost up to 64 thousand dollars a year.
The cost of enrollment at the Durango Conservatory of Music has not yet been determined; priority will be given to the musical talent of the students, regardless of their financial capacity.
