In light of rumors that the Costco store will be coming to Durango soon, the head of the Secretariat of Economic Development (Sedeco), Fernando Rosas Palafox, confirmed that investors from the company have been in the city to see land and have approached the Private Initiative that already has projects in the state, as well as have approached the authorities to discuss.
They already have all the numbers and precise data on commercial activity in Durango, so it will be until October that their decision is known, since it is in this month that they meet with partners to see new expansion projects.
In light of rumors that the Costco store will be coming to Durango soon, the head of Sedeco confirmed that investors from the company have been in the city to see land.
“It is usually at the end of the year when companies do their analysis of how they did and see new markets,” said the person responsible for attracting economic investments in the state, who assured that Durango is already a strong market for the arrival of this type of companies, despite having a good offer of stores that have the same concept in the main cities of the state.
He assured that more than 800 thousand people live in the capital and to these are added all those who come from other municipalities and states such as Sinaloa or Zacatecas, “Durango is a great market for a store like this,” said the state official.
There is no risk that companies with the same line of business as Costco will see a decrease in their sales. In fact, Rosas Palafox is betting on encouraging competition, since far from seeing it as a threat, it will force them to renew and improve. “Competition always helps the consumer,” he said.
He said that the Durango government has had contact not only with investors from important commercial chains like Costco, but also with other types of investors. However, so far there has not been a clear statement from the company, although there is interest.
