This Saturday, the community of Punta Allen, the heart of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, became the epicenter of Quintana Roo gastronomy with the start of the 2024 Lobster Festival, announced by the municipal president of Tulum, Diego Castañón.

Behind each dish prepared, such as the famous coconut lobster, there is important work by local fishermen who have committed to sustainable practices. To guarantee the preservation of this species and its reproduction, an agreement has been established that allows the capture of lobsters from 14 centimeters or 400 grams.

Lobster is a fundamental ingredient in local gastronomy and has been consumed for decades in Tulum, Riviera Maya and Cancun; however, its demand has also grown internationally with exports to countries such as France, Spain and Asian nations. Given this growing demand, Punta Allen is positioned as a sanctuary for lobster, where its responsible consumption is promoted and its preservation for future generations is sought to be guaranteed.
