El Cardenal is one of the emblematic restaurants in Mexico City. This establishment is characterized by its Mexican cuisine and chiles en nogada are one of its many specialties.
Although they are considered a seasonal dish (covering from August to September), their combination of flavors transports us to Puebla, where the recipe originated.
It’s chiles en nogada time! Today in Menu we tell you how much it costs to eat them at El Cardenal, one of the most photogenic restaurants in downtown Mexico City.
How much does a chile en nogada cost at El Cardenal?
Seasonal menus are characteristic of El Cardenal. Every month they try to highlight a Mexican dish, which is why from Saturday, July 13 until the end of September you can taste their chiles en nogada.
The average cost of the dish is $475 pesos. In addition, the restaurant offers a special package that includes a shot of mezcal, a cuitlacoche enchilada, a piece of chile en nogada and snow (made of tuna, mamey or zapote). This menu costs approximately $580 pesos.
El Cardenal’s own customers have been in charge of reviewing the excellent flavor and quality of their food. Some say that “they are the champions of traditional cuisine.”
El Cardenal, a benchmark of Mexican gastronomy
The first branch of El Cardenal was founded in 1969, located between Moneda and Seminario streets in downtown Mexico City. According to the restaurant’s official website, the establishment was built under the command of Mrs. Oliva Garizurieta and Mr. Jesús Briz.
By 1984, its second branch was opened at 23 Palma Street. The building, which has a classic French style from the Porfirian era, witnessed the diversification of the restaurant’s culinary offering.
Faithful to the principle of serving representative dishes of Mexico, El Cardenal established itself as a benchmark for the country’s cuisine, attracting dozens of national and foreign customers.
It also offers its visitors a family atmosphere (like that produced in Mexican cuisine) mixed with the high quality that can be found in a five-star restaurant.
