The third edition of the Querétaro Experimental International Festival came to an end this Sunday, with events that brought together international, national and local artists, who turned Querétaro into the capital of culture and artistic expression by gathering more than 450 thousand attendees, and generating an economic impact of 534 million pesos.

With this and all the Querétaro projects that have been presented during three years at the Festival, the Municipality of Querétaro, through its Culture Secretariat and Tourism Secretariat “has always been committed to supporting local artists so that they can materialize high-quality projects that attract and excite the Querétaro and foreign public,” stressed authorities in the sector.

During its three editions, the Querétaro Experimental International Festival was held over 45 weekends with 145 music performances, 54 dance performances, 56 theater performances, 10 aerial and/or large-format theater performances, 17 parades, and 45 performances in the seven delegations of the municipality along with 20 workshops.

149 local companies, 82 national companies, and 51 international companies from 21 countries participated. Five sculptural installations were also placed in various points of our Historic Center.

The production in charge of closing the Festival was the large-format show to celebrate the life and work of a great painter: “Tamayo, el infinito cotidiano”, in which original music, aerial dance, large-format projections, and the display of vibrant choreographies that enveloped the public and led them through some exciting biographical passages of the artist were combined.

“This production is entirely Queretaro and the artists who make up the proposal live in the state, so it is possible to confirm the enormous creative capacity that we have in Querétaro,” the organizers emphasized.

“During this last weekend we enjoyed dance, theater, clown and parade performances that filled the public squares, streets and walkways of our city with artistic expressions that immersed the attendees in experiencing this great festival,” they detailed.

The dance was performed by “Fortunato del Diablo y la muerte” (Fortunato of the Devil and Death), by the Folkloric Company of the Autonomous University of Querétaro, which told us about a huapanguero musician who is orphaned when his grandfather loses his life playing cards against a cheating opponent, “Until when?”, with three dancers who showed us a deep reflection on topics that often go unnoticed in our daily lives.

The theater was lived with “Parrot Contestatario”, a beautiful story of a clown who carries a suitcase and tells us that in difficult times like the ones we live in, revolutionary grandparents are important, reminding us how necessary it is to laugh, ask questions and take advantage of any excuse to imagine different worlds.

Music was one of the most important elements of the festival and this weekend it closed with the performances of the Queretaro band “Demondeath”, who with their musical proposal took us to explore the sounds and themes of thrash metal.

Also, there was the performance of one of the most iconic bands of Mexico “Descartes a Kant”, who made the stage vibrate by fusing different musical styles and by their performative presentations.

The great musical night concluded with the presentation of “Hercules and Love Affair”, a dance music project created by the American DJ, singer, composer, musician and producer, who during his diverse presentation of rhythms such as house music, disco, and techno got the audience dancing in this grand closing of the Festival.
