The unionized staff of the Federal Judicial Branch (PJF) in Oaxaca suspended work indefinitely in protest against the judicial reform.

The PJF facilities in the municipalities of Oaxaca de Juárez, San Bartolo Coyotepec and Salina Cruz were closed, in line with the national day of the national demonstration against possible changes such as the election of judges and magistrates by popular vote.

The union, attached to Section 29 of the Union of Workers of the Judicial Branch of the Federation, announced that next Wednesday they expect the adherence of the judges and magistrates.

The suspension kept the Circuit Collegiate Courts, Auxiliary Circuit Collegiate Courts and Circuit Collegiate Courts of Appeal closed.

In addition to the Federal Criminal Justice Centers, District Courts, Auxiliary District Courts, Labor Courts for Individual and Collective Matters, among others.

In Tlaxcala, workers of the Judicial Branch of the Federation joined the national work stoppage, in rejection of the judicial reform proposed by the federal government.

The main offices of the judicial branch put up banners in defense of their rights, the workers say.

“We are here first to defend our rights, our labor rights, I have been part of it for two years, I don’t have much time, but the truth is it is an honor to belong to an institution like the federal judicial branch, it demands study, commitment,” said Guadalupe Fernández Castillo, a Judicial Branch Worker

The dissatisfied workers say that they are asking for the autonomy of the judicial branch to be respected, since this reform puts that autonomy at risk.

“I have 25 uninterrupted years of experience in the federal judiciary and the reason for this movement is to defend the rights of all. It is not a partisan movement. We are not defending ministers, magistrates or judges, we are defending the workers in the judicial career. We are not defending benefits, salaries, or maintaining any type of privilege that no one else has,” said Aldo Cristian Gallegos, a worker in the judiciary.

The workers also blocked the Mexico-Veracruz highway at the “Y Griega” to ask the federal government to listen to their requests.
