More than 45 thousand cubic meters of mud have been removed from the General, San Pedrito and Urandén docks of Lake Pátzcuaro to ensure water circulation, prevent pollution and bad odors, and avoid obstruction of the channels that go from the springs.

This has been possible thanks to the efforts made since May by residents of nearby communities through the Temporary Employment Program supported by the Government of Michoacán, as well as state agencies to recover this wetland considered a Ramsar site, having been recognized internationally for its importance and biological diversity.

The Secretariat of Communications and Public Works (SCOP), the State Commission of Fisheries (Compesca) and the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) are also advancing in the cleaning of the lake with specialized machinery from the Ihuatzio and Jarácuaro docks, improving the flow and oxygenation of the water.

In addition, there are complementary actions being carried out to recharge the wetland and protect the soil, through the planting of 1.5 million trees in the basin of Lake Pátzcuaro, which will prevent landslides and flooding in the municipalities.
