Are you going to take any highway or freeway in Michoacán? Be patient, because some of them are currently occupied by members of the Indigenous Supreme Council this Tuesday, September 1.
Through a press release, the social group stated that it would carry out road closures from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (local time) as a protest to demand that the government address the environmental and social problems affecting Indigenous groups.
Likewise, the group described the government as “indifferent,” alleging that their calls for help have not been addressed in response to acts that have threatened security and justice.
Road blockades in Michoacán today, September 1
According to the National Guard, Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe), as well as the SICT Center, the roads affected this Tuesday in Michoacán are:
- Morelia-Guadalajara Highway, near the Panindícuaro toll booth
- Morelia-Uruapan Highway, at the Zirahuén toll booth
- Uruapan-Lázaro Cárdenas Highway, at the Taretan toll booth
- Morelia Macrolibramiento Highway, in the municipality of Teratan
- Quriga-Tepalcatepec Highway, near the Parácuaro intersection
- Pátzcuaro-Lázaro Cárdenas Highway
- Maravatío-Zapotlanejo Highway
Due to the disruptions, authorities are asking the public to take precautions, follow traffic instructions, and use alternate routes.
Demonstrations in Michoacán today, September 1
The Indigenous Supreme Council is also planning a mobilization along the federal Lázaro Cárdenas-Colima Highway; however, it has not yet begun.
Likewise, in other parts of the state, demonstrations are expected to demand greater action in favor of the environment, security, and access to justice.
