Morena Senator Simey Olvera Bautista sparked controversy during the closing of her second report of activities in the municipality of Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo, after appearing alongside actress Tamara Henaine, who attended dressed as President Claudia Sheinbaum under her character known as “Claudita.”
The impersonator’s participation caught some attendees of the so-called “state tour of informational assemblies” by surprise. Olvera Bautista had held the tour across Hidalgo’s seven districts, concluding it in Ixmiquilpan.
Dressed as the federal president, Henaine was in charge of introducing the senator to the audience and highlighting some of her qualities.
“Senator Simey is a woman of struggle, a resilient, courageous woman, and a little birdie told me that here in this beautiful Mezquital Valley, the nickname Paloma emerged,” she said during her speech.
The event featured music and brought together a large group of people, including municipal government employees. The senator used the event to conclude the tours she had carried out throughout different parts of the state as part of her second report.
She is accused of getting a head start on her campaign
The appearance of the impersonator sparked questions on social media, particularly because Olvera Bautista has been identified as one of Morena’s possible candidates for the Hidalgo governorship.
Some users considered that the tour and public events could represent an early campaign, while others specifically criticized the decision to use a portrayal of Sheinbaum during the report.
The criticism was also related to the use of the president’s image to accompany the legislator’s presentation, as well as the participation of Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña in the events.
So far, the criticism has focused mainly on social media, where users questioned why the event resorted to a parody of the president instead of focusing exclusively on the senator’s achievements during her second year in office.
